WAJAMAMA stands for WATOTO (children), JAMII (community), MAMA
Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of communities in Zanzibar by making holistic healthcare services accessible to women and children of all socioeconomic backgrounds.
As the pioneer holistic health care center in Zanzibar,
our locally and women-led social enterprise is committed to establishing a new standard of care based on high quality, compassionate, and evidence-based practices that prioritize the overall well-being of individuals.
Holistic Approach
We firmly believe that promoting health and preventing diseases is a crucial step towards creating a fair and equitable world, where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive. Our center consists of a Family & Women’s Health Clinic, a Wellness Hub offering boutique fitness and yoga spaces, and our flagship program, Feed Your Mind, which provides digital and in-person learning opportunities.
Nurturing Environment
We strongly believe that health care should be delivered in aesthetically pleasing environments. From the moment you enter our center and immerse yourself in our beautiful garden, you will immediately recognize that you are in a nurturing and therapeutic setting, where our dedicated team is prepared to receive you and support your health and well-being needs.
Since Opening in 2019
1.000
We have provided high-quality and comprehensive health care services to over 1,000 women, children, and their families at our medical clinic; thus supporting their holistic wellbeing.
5.000
We have made our fitness and yoga classes accessible to more than 5,000 women; encouraging them to make yoga and fitness a part of their lifestyle.
500.000
We have successfully disseminated preventive health information accessible to over 500,000 individuals through our social media platforms; thus raising awareness on maintaining good health.
And this is just the beginning.
In the next 10 years, our aim is to expand our care model throughout the archipelago, reaching more than 1 million women and children in the region and beyond. We will achieve this by offering direct patient care both in person and digitally, as well as by providing capacity building and support to healthcare providers through simulation-based trainings, preceptorships, and fellowships, thus creating systemic shifts in ways that matter.
Our Values
Everything that we do, we do holistically
In addition to caring for the whole you, we also prioritize the wellbeing of our team members that care for you, as well as our spaces and environment.
Accessibility for all
We strive to ensure that our services are easily accessible to all regardless of your physical, mental, social, and socioeconomic means.
We Are Inclusive
Despite being heavily women and children-centered, we also make our health care services accessible to men.
Evidence-based patient-centered care
We recognize that one size does not fit all and individuals have different needs. We take our time to get to know the whole you during your 30 to 45-minute appointment so that we are able to tailor your care based on your specific needs and risk factors.
Trauma-Informed & culturally-competent care for all
We value and respect the understanding that humans come from all walks of life and we try our best to provide dignified care that is nontriggering and is respectful at all times.
